The event was broadcasted on ABC and hosted by Johnny Carson. Dustin Hoffman won Best Actor for his role in "Kramer vs. Kramer," while Sally Field was awarded Best Actress for "Norma Rae." "Kramer vs. Kramer" earned the most awards that night, with a total of five wins. Both "Kramer vs. Kramer" and "All That Jazz" led the nominations with nine each.
