On this day the inaugural WrestleMania event was hosted at Madison Square Garden in New York, featuring Hulk Hogan and Mr. T overcoming "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff in the headline match, broadcast live on pay-per-view. In another significant match, The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff defeated Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo, known as The U.S. Express, to clinch the WWF Tag Team Championship.
