On this day, February 17, 1989, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure premiered in theaters, introducing audiences to the time-traveling misadventures of two lovable slackers. Even though the movie had modest expectations, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure became a surprise hit, launching a franchise that included a sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), an animated series, a TV show, and the long awaited Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020).
80s insight: The original script had Bill and Ted traveling through time in a van instead of a phone booth, but the concept was changed to avoid similarities with Back to the Future.
