On May 8, 1987, the comedy adventure film Hot Pursuit premiered in theaters. Directed by Steven Lisberger, best known for directing Tron, the film starred John Cusack as a prep school student chasing after his girlfriend and her family on a wild journey through the Caribbean. The cast also included Robert Loggia, Wendy Gazelle, Jerry Stiller, Monte Markham, Shelley Fabares, Keith David, and a young Ben Stiller in his film debut.
With a mix of teen comedy, tropical chaos, and action, Hot Pursuit managed to earn 4.2 million dollars at the box office on a 4 million dollar budget. While not a major hit, it added to Cusack’s growing 80s filmography and introduced Ben Stiller to the big screen.
